The Master Gardener Association offers a Certification course at the Texas AgriLife Extension office in Burnet. It begins on Thursday, February 14, 2019 and runs for 13 weeks, meeting every Thursday from 10:00 AM until 2:30 PM in Burnet. 

The course provides a comprehensive background in horticulture principles and practices with an emphasis on conservation, sustainability, and community service. Experts are invited each week to speak on such topics as geology, soil composition and amendments, trees, entomology, vegetable gardening, water irrigation, plant taxonomy, invasive plants, landscape design, water conservation, plant propagation, grafting, and rainwater harvesting. Several field trips are also planned. The classes are fun and stimulating. They not only train participants to be more knowledgeable gardeners for personal use but also to be a great resource to the community and to other gardeners.

To become a certified Master Gardener, it is MANDATORY that the participants meet the following minimum requirements:  1. Must attend ALL classes. (If a class must be missed, the participant must attend a make-up class before he/she can be certified.) 2. Must complete 10 hours of continuing education. 3. Must complete 50 hours of service to the community through approved Master Gardener projects. This is a great opportunity to glean knowledge from seasoned Master Gardeners. 

The cost of the program is $150 which covers the cost of resource materials, t-shirt, and field trip admissions. Members are required to re-certify each year by earning a minimum of 6 additional hours of continuing education and contributing a minimum of 25 additional hours of approved volunteer service.  

General membership meetings (except for August) are held on the third Tuesday of each month.
