Please help the Helping Center

At the Marble Falls Helping Center you will find a beautiful vegetable and native wildflower garden called The Helping Center Garden. The garden is adjacent to The Helping Center Food Bank and was established in 2011 with just a few raised beds. The garden has grown tremendously since 2011. Last year's harvest total was 2,673 pounds. All crops in the garden are grown organically with many sustainable techniques in practice. Produce grown in the garden is given to the Helping Center Food Bank to distribute to their clients. The garden is maintained by volunteers both in the garden and behind the scenes, and is funded by donations. Educating the community in sustainable and organic gardening is a priority for the Helping Center Garden. Much is learned from volunteering in the garden and anyone in the community is welcome to volunteer. Times to volunteer are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 am until 11:00 am. Master Gardeners are on hand at these times to work in the garden, to assist, and to instruct volunteers. Groups such as homeschoolers, church groups, and scouts are welcome and special times can be arranged for these groups. Periodically, seminars and special classes are held in the garden. The Highland Lakes Master Gardeners have constructed raised planting beds to grow fresh vegetables for the many families in need. We need help maintaining and watering these beds. If anyone can help, please contact Garden Liaison, Suzy Rowley Home: 512-267-7678 Cell:  512-917-7917    suzyrowley@gmail.com

We truly would appreciate additional volunteers, as we have planted the crops and they shall be up and running soon!   Thanks so much.  This would be a wonderful family volunteer project.  With the seasonal plantings, we need additional volunteers from the community to help in harvesting and other chores in the garden.
